Medical
January

Utah volunteer surgeons travel to Ouelessebougou annually to perform critical OB/GYN surgeries for women who cannot afford this critical care. Procedures include cesarean sections, prolapsed uterus removal, hysterectomies, vaginal colpopleisis, and removal of pelvic masses. In addition to providing medical procedures, medical teams spend time with villagers by modeling health care and performing routine check-ups for children.

February

A team of volunteer public health professionals travel to Ouelessebougou annually to provide training for Health Agents and Matrons. Training sessions have included topics such as: neo-natal resuscitation, water purification, and nutrition. During the expedition, the health team also provides support for the Alliance’s Mali Health Coordinator as she conducts Healthy Village Workshops and works with Village Health Councils to review goals and create Village Health Plans for the coming year.
General Expedition
Westminister College

May 2011

As part of a Development, History, and Culture in West Africa course at Westminster College, a group of students will travel to Ouelessebougou in May of 2011 for a cultural and learning experience. Two professors will lead the student group as they learn about the workings of an international NGO as well as spend time with the PeaceCorp in the Capital City, Bamako.
Education Expedition
October

A team of volunteer educators travel to Ouelessebougou annually to provide support for the Alliance’s Mali Education Coordinator, 38 village elementary school teachers, and four lead teachers. Mali staff and expedition members meet with Village Education Councils to follow up on past goals and to create their Village Education Plans for the coming year.
Economic Development
October or January

A team of volunteer economic development experts travel to Ouelessebougou annually to provide training and support for the Alliance’s Economic Development Coordinator and Village Economic Development Committees. During the expedition businessmen and women follow up on current loan projects and plan for future village needs.
