About Utah & Community
Utah
The Ouelessebougou Alliance began with compassionate community leaders in Utah, as described in the “About Us / Our History” section of this site.
The State of Utah adopted Ouelessebougou as a Sister Community in 1986, and has nurtured a strong Sister Community relationship ever since that time. The Alliance grew for several years, knows as the Ouelessebougou-Utah Alliance, and still uses that name among Utah community groups. As part of the Sister Community relationship between Utah and Ouelessebougou, the Utah State Office of Education formally added the study of Ouelessebougou to the 2nd Grade Social Studies Core in 2001 (adjustments to the core no longer require the study of Ouelessebougou, but encourage incorporating use of our materials in classrooms across Utah.
Thanks to donations from Utah supporters, the Alliance has provided every school district in the state of Utah with trunks of supplies and a 123-page manual to assist in teaching about Ouelessebougou in the classroom.
Expansion Beyond Utah
Donors and volunteers partnering with the Alliance now reach across the United States, from Washington D.C. to California. Everyone is welcome to become a part of this Alliance
The elementary classroom materials used in Utah, were developed with support from donors and volunteers in Seattle, Washington and Palo Alto, California. Educational supplies to teach about Ouelessebougou are also used in schools in these communities.
